A Duchesne County man is facing a long list of charges after a series of events that allegedly started with him fleeing from police. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer observed a vehicle at 3000 South State Street in Roosevelt on November 28th that matched the description of a vehicle that had evaded Utah Highway Patrol. The officer activated emergency lights and the suspect vehicle pulled away and quickly accelerated. Speeds reached over one hundred miles per hour and proceeded west on Highway 40 before taking a dead end road. While attempting to turn his vehicle around, the suspect hit a patrol vehicle causing damage to the grill guard and also hit another patrol vehicle while trying to flee. “The vehicle drove thru two barb wire fences belonging to two separate farmers along with damage to the fields. Rustin [Mair] jumped out of his vehicle and ran on foot causing a foot pursuit to take place. Rustin was taken into custody after a taser was used and after he climbed over a barbed wire fence. Rustin stated that he had fentanyl pills in his vehicle and that is why he ran. He had to be helped to walk as he was swaying from side to side and front to back. Rustin was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Two bags of Methamphetamine were discovered in a small pouch attached to the key FOB along with rolling papers. Two plastic pipes were also recovered from the vehicle along with a blue tablet identified as fentanyl.” 40-year-old Rustin Eric Mair was placed under arrest and is charged with 2 counts of Felony Aggravated Assault, Felony Failure to Stop At Command of Police, 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, Possession of a Controlled Substance, DUI, and several traffic infractions. He has been ordered to be held without bail. Rustin Mair was scheduled for an initial appearance in court on December 1st.
