With Utah and surrounding states seeing an increase in cases of measles, the Uintah School District has a message during this season of holiday travel. “Currently, we are not aware of any cases in our area, but the virus spreads easily and quickly,” shares the Uintah School District message. “Being aware of symptoms and vaccination status can help keep everyone healthy. The Utah Department of Health and the TriCounty Health Department are emphasizing the importance of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine because many people in Utah are getting sick with measles. If there is a measles case at school, students who are not vaccinated or do not have proof of immunity may have to stay home for the duration of the outbreak, as required by state law.” If you or anyone in your family develops symptoms like rash and fever, contact a healthcare provider or TriCounty Health Department right away for special instructions for testing so that others are not exposed. Do not send your child to school if they have both a rash and a fever, or if they are not vaccinated and were recently exposed to someone with measles. If you do not know how many MMR doses your child has received, you can call your child’s healthcare provider, check the Docket web or mobile app, or call TriCounty Health Department at 435-247-1177.
