How is northeastern Utah doing with the statewide water conservation goals? The data from the Utah Division of Water Rights shows that from 2020 to 2024 compared to the 5 previous years, Daggett County has recorded a 38.6% decrease in average per capita water use, Uintah County recorded a 9.8% decrease in average per capita water use, and Duchesne County recorded an increase in average per capita water use. There are a variety of reasons for each county’s changes and Duchesne County is not alone in showing an increase with Cache, Weber, Piute, Kane, and Wayne Counties being in the same boat. While about half of Utah counties have reached the conservation target set with a 2030 deadline, it doesn’t mean they will continue to do so or that counties not reaching the goal won’t make it in the end.
