Infant Hospitalized For Kratom Overdose; Tests Positive For Cocaine

A mother has been charged with child endangerment for events in September in Uintah County. According to the Probable Cause Statement, 22-year-old Jaylee Belless knowingly or intentionally bought and allegedly snorted Cocaine and then breastfed her infant child. Around this same time period, Belless left her Kratom pills out where her infant child was able to access and ingest several pills, causing the infant to overdose and be taken to the hospital. While hospitalized, the infant child also tested positive for cocaine from being breastfed. Belless is not in custody but has been charged with 3rd Degree Felony Endangerment of a Child and Misdemeanor Reckless Endangerment. Her initial appearance in court is scheduled for December 8th. Court documents did not indicate what happened to the infant.
