Safety measures have been increased by the school district following a fatal accident that occurred in Green River, Wyoming earlier this month. A pedestrian was killed on October 8th on Monroe Avenue after being struck by a vehicle, prompting the call for increased safety in the area. SweetwaterNOW reported on October 15th that the new safety measures are in place on Monroe Avenue in response to decisions made by the school board of Sweetwater County School District No. 2. “The district plans to improve pedestrian safety during night events by adding crossing guards, activating 20 mph school zone lights, placing portable signs that read ‘Event in Progress’ and using additional traffic cones,” shares the SweetwaterNOW report. “The school also plans to direct attendees to use the Lincoln Middle School parking lot to reduce foot traffic near the street.” Pedestrian safety has been a hot topic in school districts throughout the region.
