The Duchesne Fire Department has shared a timely message as flash flood warnings apply to areas in the region. During a flood, follow instructions from emergency officials and evacuate immediately if ordered. Move to higher ground or an upper floor of your home if you are not evacuating. Do not walk or drive through floodwater. Six inches of moving water can knock you off your feet, and two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. Stay away from downed power lines and do not touch electrical equipment while wet or in standing water. If you have time and are instructed to do so, shut off your utilities which can include main power, gas, and water valves. Tune into local radio or TV for official updates and weather alerts. Have a kit ready with essentials like water, non-perishable food, and a battery-powered radio. Store important documents in a waterproof container. Move valuable items to the highest possible floor in your home. Help children, the elderly, or those with disabilities to safety.
