As you travel on 500 North between UBTech and Uintah High School, you’re bound to notice something new. The north wing of the UBTech building is now clearly named the ‘Haslem Legacy Foundation Wing’. Hundreds of students, community and industry leaders, and education stakeholders gathered on the UBTech north lawn on Thursday afternoon for a special unveiling ceremony that recognized the vast contributions to local technical education by construction company BHI, the company’s founder and Chairman Brad Haslem, and the Haslem family. Geoff Landward, Commissioner of the Utah System of Higher Education, highlighted the importance of families like the Haslems who support higher education. “Technical college and technical education is quickly becoming the backbone of higher education in our country and for good reason,” shared Commissioner Landward. “Its success is due in such a large part to the generosity of private individuals who choose to donate. Thank you. UBTech doesn’t just serve students. It strengthens the entire Uintah Basin. The partnerships it builds with local schools, employers, and community organizations ensures education here is directly connected to opportunity and growth,” concluded the Commissioner. Hundreds of students gathered with the Haslem family under the new building name to launch confetti and give a cheer for the unveiling of the ‘Haslem Legacy Foundation Wing’.
