The man who killed the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend in August 2024 in Ballard has been sentenced to prison. 43-year-old Brandin Lynn Reynolds pleaded guilty over the summer in 8th District Court to 1st Degree Felony Murder in the death of 44-year-old Owen Shuck. On August 24th, 2024 at approximately 9:00pm, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Ballard on the report of a possible fight in progress. When deputies arrived Shuck was found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. He was flown to a Wasatch Front hospital, where he died. Brandin Lynn Reynolds was taken into custody as the suspect in the stabbing death. The Affidavit of Probable Cause states that the stabbing victim, Owen Shuck, was dating Reynolds’ ex-girlfriend. Surveillance footage showed that Reynolds had entered a local fitness center on the night of the stabbing just before midnight. Bloody towels were found in the bathroom trash bin and there were blood stains found in the shower. More evidence was found in a dumpster located in Vernal City that contained a blood soaked blanket, bloody clothes, shoes, a large kitchen knife, a bat covered in blood, floor mats and more. Surveillance footage also showed Reynolds purchasing bleach and paper towels from a 7-Eleven in Vernal before he headed to the fitness center to shower. Another piece of damning evidence was uncovered in the form of a text message Reynolds sent to an acquaintance on the day of the murder stating Owen Shuck by name as someone he needed to get “out of the way”. Reynolds was sentenced on Tuesday to a term of 15 years to life in prison.
