Ice and snow means take it slow! The motto of a Utah safe driving campaign is fitting for the Basin as snow continues to pile up. Central Dispatch reported that a crash on Highway 40 just west of Vernal on Monday closed down Highway 40 in the early afternoon. The accident involved two vehicles and occupants were transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center. Utahwinterdriving.org says before drivers hit the road it is crucial to have good tires, fill the vehicle’s wiper fluid reservoir, replace wiper blades if necessary and even keep a spare in the vehicle. Once you’re on the road, always drive under the speed limit on wet, snowy or icy roads. Avoid quick stops, starts and turns. Increase following distance and use extra caution when changing lanes. Finally and of great importance, always look up weather forecasts and road conditions and alter your travel plans as needed to stay a step ahead of Mother Nature.
