The Uintah Basin’s own Jayden Murray made his first major league start on September 12th as pitcher for the Astros against the Atlanta Braves. KSL Sports highlighted the moment, sharing that he threw 3 innings of one-hit baseball in the game. What was his journey to get to this point? Murray threw 148 innings for Utah Tech in 2018 and 2019, ending his college career with a 13-8 record. He was 10-3 in 2019. The Tampa Bay Rays selected Murray in the 23rd round of the 2019 MLB draft. He was dealt to Houston in 2022. Murray reached Triple-A Sugar Land in 2023 with the Astros organization before a series of injury setbacks cost him most of the 2024 season. He made 50 appearances for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys out of the bullpen this season before being called up to pitch for the Houston Astros against the New York Yankees on September 4th. Jayden Murray is a member of the Uintah High School Class of 2015 and of course there is a lot of local cheering for his ongoing accomplishments.
