Property owners along Kids Canal on 1500 West and south of 500 North in Vernal took to social media on Tuesday, frustrated and confused as crews removed trees on both sides of the canal. The tree removal is part of the UDOT project at 500 North 1500 West that will include widening the intersection and adding a turn lane. Work on the project will also include removal of the box culvert and replacing it with a storm drain pipe under 500 North. Central Canal President Wayne Simper explains that while the trees are being removed on both sides of the canal for the UDOT project, the work that will take place south of that area down to 500 South will only include tree removal on the west side of the canal by the road. Preservation of the trail and water to keep trees alive are still part of the plan for Kids Canal south of the UDOT project area.
