A program that is near and dear to many in Utah is inviting Basin veterans to come forward and participate in upcoming visits to Washington, D.C. Local Honor Flight representative Jeff Berry addressed the attendees of Wednesday’s Water Conference at the Uintah Conference Center, sharing his emotional experience of taking his father on a flight just weeks before he passed away. “We create an atmosphere for 3 days to make [our veterans] feel they are something special, someone valued,” shared Berry. Honor Flight was originally focused on taking all World War II veterans to the nation’s capital so they could see their war memorial. The youngest of the World War II veterans alive now are in their 90s and it’s estimated nearly 700 are lost every day. In addition to taking World War II veterans, applications are now open for Korean and Vietnam veterans. More information on Honor Flight and how to participate or sponsor veterans is available at www.utahhonorflight.org.
