Ready or not, it’s back to school time! The first day of school for Duchesne County School District is August 19th while the first day for Uintah School District is August 20th. With that fact in mind, the Vernal Police Department has some timely reminders for the entire community. All drivers are reminded to slow down and stay alert around schools and don’t be surprised as officers actively enforce speed limits and crosswalk laws in and around school zones. Give yourself extra time to get where you need to, obey posted signs, and watch for kids, crossing guards and school buses. “With school starting next week please be attentive in your driving, refrain from distracted driving, and let’s have a safe start to the school year,” shares Vernal City Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell. “And for those having children going to school, please go over pedestrian crosswalk safety with your children. Law enforcement will be out in force protecting our schools and school zones as school starts. Please be safe.”
