Starting today, UDOT will reduce US-191 north of Vernal to a single one-way lane near milepost 368, as part of the US-191 realignment project. “The closure is expected to last about four days when the new alignment is opened to two-way traffic,” shares the UDOT announcement. “This closure will help facilitate work to integrate the new US-191 alignment with the existing road. The road will be reduced to a single one-way alternating lane for about 0.1 miles. Flaggers will be stationed at the top and bottom of the closure. Motorists are advised to stay alert and remain cautious through these areas as heavy equipment enters and exits the work zone. Recreational motorists should plan to avoid potential delays.” The US-191 Realignment Project is replacing the 2.6-mile switchback portion of the highway located 12 miles north of Vernal with an alignment with fewer turns and standard horizontal curves. The UDOT announcement shares that the proposed improvements will enhance safety by adding a continuous uphill climbing lane and a southbound passing lane, eliminating the switchbacks and providing standard horizontal curves, optimizing grades to help trucks negotiate curves, installing a runaway truck ramp, and providing standard width shoulders.
