The Utah Public Service Commission has responded to Rocky Mountain Power’s appeal after the Commission approved a far reduced rate than what Rocky Mountain Power proposed. They denied the appeal and included some straight forward language in their response. It stated in part: “The Public Service Commission wishes to address the hyperbolic, intemperate, and occasionally disrespectful tone of Rocky Mountain Power’s Request. RMP flings baseless, sweeping accusations that the Commission ‘cites no evidence at all’ for ‘many’ of its ‘conclusions’ and ‘ignores evidence…when it would lead to a different result.’ Worse, RMP impugns the integrity of the Commission, insinuating the Order ‘as a whole, appears to be outcome motivated’ for the purpose of denying RMP prudently incurred costs ‘under the guise’ of controlling costs. This offensive characterization is untrue, unhelpful in what has been a careful deliberative process, and the Commission is disappointed that RMP would stoop to what can be construed as an attack on the impartiality and integrity of the Commission.” Rocky Mountain Power originally requested a rate increase of 30.5% before amending the request to an 18.1% increase. In April, the Public Service Commission approved a 4.7% rate increase which Rocky Mountain Power appealed and now the Commission has denied that appeal.
