Just when you think phone scammers have moved on to new annoying schemes, a fresh crop of victims are hit. Vernal Police Department shared on Thursday that their officers have responded to multiple fraud complaints involving phone scams. “Scammers are posing as local law enforcement and asking people to send money or buy gift cards and provide the card details,” shares the announcement. “This is a scam. The Vernal Police Department will NEVER call and ask for money or gift cards. If you’re unsure whether a caller is a real officer: Do not give out personal or financial information.” Hang up and call the agency directly or call the non-emergency Central Dispatch line at 435-789-4222. Stay alert and help spread the word to those still vulnerable to phone scammers.
