Space is limited so those interested in participating in the upcoming hummingbird banding event better get their name on the list. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Ashley National Forest, and Red Canyon Lodge join forces on this annual event focused on one of nature’s most fascinating birds. There are several species but if you’re lucky, you may spot the calliope hummingbird, the smallest bird native to North America that weighs as much as a penny and can travel up to 5,600 miles in a single year. The DWR is partnering with retired Bureau of Land Management Biologist Terry Tolbert and Dixie National Service biologist Lisa Young to present at the hummingbird banding demonstration on Saturday, July 19th from 7 to 11 a.m. The free event will be held at the Red Canyon Lodge at 2450 Red Canyon Road in Dutch John. Space is limited, so participants should sign up in advance on Eventbrite.
