Shed Antler Closure Expands to Statewide

What was previously limited to several Utah counties has now been expanded to include the entire state. Effective immediately, shed antlers cannot be gathered in Utah until April 1st. DWR Director Greg Sheehan issued the emergency order on February 2nd, the order superseding a January 31st order that closed 11 counties. “Although winter conditions are generally less severe in the southern portions of the state,” shares Sheehan, “snowpack is still above average and deer and elk are stressed.” The order signed by Sheehan states that closing shed antler gathering statewide “will eliminate a major source of human-caused disturbances to deer and elk during the periods they are most exposed and vulnerable.” Visit
