A wildfire that grew rapidly in western Moffat County closed 40 miles of Highway 40 in both directions on Thursday. Moffat County Sheriff’s Office shared that at approximately 1:49pm on June 26th, emergency services were notified of a wildland fire in the area of milepost 25 on Highway 40. Unfavorable fire conditions caused the fire to rapidly grow, resulting in the closure of Highway 40 from milepost 20 to milepost 60 through the afternoon. By Thursday evening, the Highway 40 closure was lifted. While no other information about the wildfire was provided, the Sheriff’s Office anticipated they would have an update on Friday.
