Rock Springs Resource Management Plan Update

The BLM has announced another round of review and revision for the Rock Springs Resource Management Plan. A Record of Decision had been issued in December but was paused by the Trump administration in response to Wyoming legislators and citizens who were hotly opposed to the RMP. The Trump administration ordered a review of not just the Rock Springs plan but of federal RMPs across the western United States.  The land in question is 1.8 million acres mostly located in Sweetwater County that the new management plan designated as “areas of critical environmental concern” which put a sudden stop to public access. Cowboy State Daily reported that BLM officials spoke Thursday to the Wyoming Legislature’s Select Federal Natural Resource Management Committee, indicating that the Rock Springs RMP could be settled by spring 2026. BLM Wyoming director Kris Kirby told the committee, “The executive order in and of itself does not change the record of decision for the RMP, but It directs the agency to look at areas where we may be impacting mineral development within the Rock Springs Field Office.”
