A public hearing has been scheduled concerning a proposed judgment levy in Uintah School District to make up for a $390,482 dollar budget shortfall caused by a recent property tax appeal. “A large company in Uintah County successfully appealed the state’s tax assessment,” shares the District’s announcement. “As a result, the Uintah School District has received $390,482 dollars less in property taxes than expected…Over the past five years, the school board has used savings – instead of adopting a judgment levy – to cover similar shortfalls totaling more than $2.3 million dollars. This year, that’s not possible. The district has provided an additional $4.7 million dollars in annual tax relief to Uintah County taxpayers since 2020 based on a reduction in revenues collected through the capital levy. At the same time, it has spent down its reserves by funding projects like the new Central Cove Early Learning Center, the Ag Science building at Uintah High School, and the purchase of the district office in Naples.” The Uintah School Board could choose to adopt this one-time correction allowed by Utah law. If approved, the average Uintah County homeowner (with a property value of $292,000) would pay an additional $10.49 one time. A business in Uintah County with the same property value would pay an additional $19.07 one time. The public hearing is scheduled for August 6th at 6 p.m. in the Uintah School District office boardroom, 826 South 1500 East in Naples. The public is invited to attend.
