A man whose vehicle had evaded the police in an early morning chase in May and claimed that the car had been stolen at that time, gave himself away rather quickly. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 24-year-old Dillan Avery was questioned about the vehicle running from police during a check in at the parole office in Roosevelt at which time he explained that the vehicle had been stolen and he signed a stolen vehicle report form. A quick search of Avery’s electronics not only included communication about buying and selling illegal narcotics and a handgun, but also had pictures of the law enforcement vehicles that had conducted the traffic stop and subsequent chase of his vehicle on the night in question, timestamped within minutes of the chase that ensued. Avery was transported to Uintah County Jail to be held while the investigation continued where officers listened as Avery made phone calls to individuals giving them detailed instructions to delete and wipe incriminating evidence from his Facebook Messenger account as well as doing a factory reset on his phones, emphasizing that they needed to hurry and get it all deleted. Officers also listened as Avery called an individual to ask them to go get things from the supposedly missing and stolen vehicle, explaining where it had been discarded in the Randlett area. With the help of BIA officers, Uintah County officers located the vehicle and drugs were found inside. Dillan Avery is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Failure to Stop at Command of Police, 3 counts of 3rd Degree Felony Obstruction of Justice, Providing False Information to a Peace Officer, and drug charges. He is being held on no bail.
