It’s been several years in the making but it appears Senator Ron Winterton’s efforts to add incentives for film productions to stay or return to Utah are paying off. Winterton sponsored the bill and led the effort in 2021 to increase the tax credits for motion pictures, among other incentives, after the production of the popular ‘Yellowstone’ series moved to Montana after filming its first few seasons in Utah. While ‘Yellowstone’ has wrapped, a spinoff of it is among productions that have committed to film in Utah thanks to the new state incentives. The Utah Film Commission announced last week that four new film productions were approved , including the Yellowstone spinoff ‘Y:Marshals’, independent film ‘Keep Coming Back’, Netflix reality show ‘Freshman Inventors’, and of course, another season of ‘The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch’. The Utah Film Commission estimated that these productions will have over $57 million dollars in economic impact.
