Tax season has arrived and with it, scammers. “With tax season upon us we see an increase in tax fraud related calls,” shares the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office. “Scammers look for every possible opportunity to steal information and money from people and we hate to see that happen.” If you happen to be on the receiving end of one of these phone calls, do not give any personal information over the phone, including any banking information. “Regardless of the threats of arrests or them saying law enforcement will come to your house and arrest you, those claims are false. Also, the IRS will never ask for debit or credit card information over the phone.” Uintah County Sheriff’s Office further warns of any type of caller that demands personal information or payment. Scammers attempt to instill fear in those they call, making folks more likely to give the information the scammers are wanting. If anyone has questions or concerns about phone calls they receive, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement agency. For more information on possible IRS tax scams, visit
