Local dentists have joined forces for the health and benefit of local kids. The American Dental Association launched the Give Kids a Smile program in 2003 and more than 5.5 million underserved children have received free oral health services since. Starting this month, over a dozen local dentists have made visits to schools, providing free cavity screenings for local school children. Nearly 3,500 screenings were performed last week, with a form then sent home with students to alert parents of their child’s oral health and any immediate dental needs. Dr. Michael Smuin paved the way for the event along with the current leadership of the Uintah Basin District of the Utah Dental Association. It is estimated the dentists have donated around $115,000 dollars in services.
