Further expansion has been announced for the property surrounding the Uintah Community Center. Uintah Special Service District 1 made the announcement on Thursday that funding has officially been awarded for the construction of a new Indoor Sports Court Facility. “Since the original construction of the current Recreation Center in 2008, expansion for additional indoor court space has been part of the long-term vision,” shares the announcement. “The 2012 Master Plan reaffirmed this goal, and in the 2022 updated Master Plan, the expansion remained the top priority and the next phase for development on the Kay Property, owned by USSD1. Executive Director Cheryl Meier has worked diligently to pursue funding and move this much-needed project forward. In anticipation of funding opportunities, an RFP for a Design-Build team was issued in December 2024. The proposed design drew inspiration from Heber City’s indoor sports facility.” Jardine Builders and MB Design were chosen to lead the project and a Community Impact Board (CIB) funding application was submitted in January 2025. In April, the project was presented to the CIB, where it was placed on the pending list. A revised funding proposal was presented to the CIB on June 5th and the CIB awarded USSD1 a $7.6 million dollar 15-year low-interest loan at 2.5% interest and a $3.8 million dollar grant. The USSD1 Board approved the funding package on June 11th, which includes setting aside $9.6 million dollars in match funding and $7.6 million dollars for loan repayment, all funded exclusively by mineral lease dollars. Once preliminary designs are complete, they will be shared with the public.
