There’s some good news concerning a wildfire burning in Duchesne County. The Sterling Fire is located within the Ashley National Forest approximately 22 miles south of Duchesne within the Right Fork of Indian Canyon in steep slopes and difficult terrain. Original estimates on the wildfire’s size were off and the fire was actually approximately 11 acres — a decrease in acreage from previous aerial estimates after on the ground mapping. On Monday, firefighters established a hand line around the fire’s perimeter. On Tuesday, crews continued to secure lines and mop-up with the assistance of aerial operations. Thankfully, no structures are threatened and Highway 191 remains open.
