Interviews begin tonight for the narrowing list of applicants being considered for the Vernal City Manager position. The Vernal City Council meeting begins at 6:00pm with half hour interviews blocked for four applicants; Russ Pearson, Thomas Smith, Mike Davis, and Craig Whitehead. After several hard working decades serving as the Vernal City Manager, Ken Bassett officially made the announcement last August of his retirement scheduled for early summer 2017. The job announcement was posted in the fall and the Mayor and hiring committee have narrowed down the pool of applicants. Tonight’s interviews with the Mayor and full City Council are the next step in the vetting process and a final announcement is expected to be made by the middle of March. The new City Manager is anticipated to begin in the position in the month of April providing for several months of side-by-side training with Mr. Bassett.
