The quick thinking of a local Police Officer may have saved the life of a Uintah Middle School student earlier this month. Vernal PD shared that on May 14th, School Resource Officer Pummell was on duty at Uintah Middle School when he overheard a commotion in the cafeteria during lunch. “Upon investigating, SRO Pummell discovered that an 11-year-old student was choking on food. He immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging the obstruction and allowing the student to breathe normally. Paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed that the student was safe.” Vernal PD emphasized that SRO Pummell’s “swift and decisive actions undoubtedly prevented a potential tragedy.” Well done SRO Pummell!
