There’s no denying the effects of economic downturn in the Basin but that hasn’t stopped Basin citizens from digging deep and living their lives. Duchesne County Economic Development Director Irene Hansen says she and other local leaders regularly witness the resilient spirit of Basin residents. “Even during the downturn there are so many accomplishments and things to celebrate,” shares Hansen. “There are so many people getting creative and running businesses in their homes, even finding ways to open a storefront.” The creativity and industrious nature of Basin women has especially become apparent. “It is really inspiring,” shares Hansen. “These women are finding ways to be really creative and work hard to help their family be sustainable during this tough time.” Hansen says plans for a special Women’s Conference is in the works and that public leaders will continue to seek ways to help Basin residents get through the economic downturn.
