With the help of Uintah High School government students, House Bill 117 has now made it past the Senate Committee and will be on the Senate floor by next week. Representative Scott Chew brought the team of bright students on board for House Bill 117 that updates and amends the statute dealing with legal notices. The students conducted a survey, performed research, prepared a presentation and rebuttal arguments, and testified before the Business and Labor Committee. In February, the bill was passed out of the Committee unanimously. On Wednesday, the bill passed the House floor and was put on the schedule for the Senate Committee on Thursday. “The kids scrambled to make it out to testify before the Senate Committee and 4 were able to make it,” shares Representative Scott Chew. “The kids did an excellent job answering questions and HB 117 passed out of the Senate Committee unanimously.” Representative Chew says he is proud of the students’ hard work and says he wishes he had had an opportunity to participate and learn about the legislative system at that age.
