The Utah Department of Transportation announced its list of construction projects for 2025 and it includes a major project in Duchesne County. “UDOT completed multiple projects on the U.S. Route 191 Indian Canyon Corridor between US-40 and US-6 during 2023 and 2024,” shares the announcement. “Improvements to the corridor will continue during the next two years to ensure the road withstands the projected additional heavy vehicle traffic and to improve safety for all travelers on the route. The 45-mile corridor runs from Duchesne to Helper. Nearly $104 million dollars has been allocated for improvements to the corridor. The Utah Legislature appropriated $88.5 million dollars in their 2023 session, and UDOT has provided just over $15.49 million dollars in additional state and federal funding for improvements to the US-191 Indian Canyon corridor.” Previous improvements included adding an important passing lane, pavement preservation, adding of cattleguards, and improvements to the intersection of Highway 191 and Highway 6. Starting next week, construction will begin on the North of Summit and South of Summit projects that will likely extend through 2026. This will add a two-mile-long passing lane and increase the number of shoulder and chain-up areas. Crews will also add a variety of safety measures, including drainage improvements and guardrail and fencing additions. Additionally, a new traffic signal is planned for this summer at the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 191 in Duchesne City.
