Flood Safety Awareness Week could hold special meaning this year as flooding due to spring runoff poses a real threat. Officials in Duchesne and Uintah Counties have been watching snowpack and when and where spring temperatures could cause the greatest flood damage. All locals have been encouraged to prepare now for the possibility of home and property flooding. Sandbags are for sale at many stores throughout the Basin. Residents are also encouraged to check with their insurance agency to understand their home policy. National Weather Service reports that flooding causes more damage in the United States than any other weather related event with an average of $8 billion dollars a year and an average of 95 fatalities per year.
