One month ago today, a group of Government students from Uintah High School took Utah’s Capital by storm as they testified in favor of HB 117 before the Business and Labor Committee. The students were successful and the bill, which expands the type and breadth of publications that can print public notices, was passed through the House and Senate before legislation closed earlier this month. “This is a good thing that will benefit rural Utah,” shares bill sponsor Representative Scott Chew. “This makes public notices more available to the citizens that continue to rely on print media, providing just another arena for those notices to be available.” Representative Chew said the students impressed many people during legislation. Having gained attention for their professionalism, solid presentations, and clear rebuttal arguments, Governor Herbert is tentatively planning a special trip to the Basin for a ceremonial signing of the bill, possibly next week.
