A popular community figure, whose costumes and service as the librarian of the Roosevelt Branch Library brightened the entire community, is needing to put his health first and permanently step down from his position. The Duchesne County Library System made the following announcement on Friday: Stephen Moon was Branch Manager of the Roosevelt Branch Library for many years and worked at Roosevelt Library for a total of 20. Previously he worked in libraries in Uintah and Davis Counties for 15 years. He was selected by the Utah Library Association as the 2018 Librarian of the Year. During his tenure, library programming at Roosevelt grew exponentially from a small weekly story time to large-themed events, multiple story times a week, and various weekly and monthly activities. The library was recognized with Quality Library Awards from the Utah State Library Division from 2017 on. Due to the growth of the library services, demand for a new, larger library increased. The new Roosevelt Library was constructed and opened February 2023. Stephen credited his staff for all the work they did to grow library services, meriting such a project. Stephen made many personal contributions to the library and community…from “The Wall of Awesomeness” to the increasingly elaborate gingerbread displays for the library based on various literature franchises. He was a frequently requested storyteller at community events and was known for his and his family’s skill in cosplay…His contributions helped greatly increase the reach and effectiveness of library services in the Roosevelt community. Thank you Stephen for your incredible sacrifice and passion! Evans Family Media joins in thanking Stephen Moon and wishes him good health and new adventures.
