Cemeteries Prepped for Memorial Weekend

Memorial Day will bring a wide variety of visitors to local cemeteries this month and local officials are making preparations a priority. Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd made a report during Monday’s Commission meeting that after visiting all 11 of the county’s cemeteries, a list has been compiled of things needing cleaned up. Shepherd also said volunteer help would go a long ways in helping the county to bring the cemeteries up to a better standard. “On our mind as a Commission is that the place where we place community members to rest is sacred and clean,” says Shepherd. Cemetery beautification was also a topic at the City/County meeting last week. Vernal City Council Member Bert Clark outlined problem areas he sees such as potholes and damaged signage. Clark also asked that signs be made for the public to know where water access is in the cemeteries so visitors can water their flowers. All those visiting local cemeteries for the upcoming holiday are invited to do their part to respect the facilities and keep them clean.
