The Daggett County Republican Committee announced their nominee to serve out the remainder of Jerry Jorgensen’s term as the Daggett County Sheriff. Sheriff Jorgensen submitted his resignation in April, citing his desire to help the county move forward in the process with the Utah Department of Corrections after state inmates were removed as part of an investigation into inmate abuse. The Committee selected Eric L. Bailey of Ogden, Utah. Bailey has served in law enforcement for over 25 years. “He worked for the Utah Department of Corrections for eight years from 1991 to 1999 promoting to Sergeant during that time and earning a Medal of Merit and three Certificates of Commendation,” shares the announcement. “He then joined the Syracuse Police Department where he worked until 2011 serving as a police officer, K-9 officer, and detective. He continued to work for the next four years in various positions for the Utah Transit Authority Police Department. He served as a member of the S.A.F.E. Team, a patrol sergeant, and a patrol administrative sergeant. Recently, he served as a lieutenant with Grantsville City Police Department through March of 2017.” The nomination will be considered during a special Daggett County Commission meeting today at 11:00am. If approved, Bailey will be sworn in immediately.
