Vernal Regional Airport Projects Continue

There are plenty of moving parts in the Vernal Regional Airport runway expansion project. GDA Engineers attended the Vernal City Council meeting earlier this month to present documents from the FAA needing approval by the city to continue and complete multiple aspects of the project. Justin Marchant presented the following items for approval: Final land acquisition to purchase property for the runway expansion project. Acquisition of property in Jensen for wetland mitigation. Final close-out grant for the 2012 land acquisition. Contract close-out documents for the wetland mitigation site. Design and construction documents for the wetland site. A new grant application for $3.4 million dollars for the next and final phase of the runway relocation project. An addendum to the engineering contract with GDA concerning the mitigation property in Jensen. And a contract amendment with GDA for construction and administrative services. Council member Dave Everett asked what would happen if the grant is not approved for the final phase. Mr. Marchant said that is unlikely but regardless the airport still has an operational taxiway and runway but would require improvements for larger air carrier traffic. All the documents presented were unanimously approved by the Vernal City Council.
