The Naples City Police Department K9 program received hearty applause at the Vernal Chamber annual dinner and awards banquet last week, as the Government Business of the Year. The Naples K9 program started in 2006 with Sgt. Valeen Horrocks and her loyal K9 officer JonNae. The program grew in 2008 when Lt. Andrew Cox was hired along with his K9 Jesse. Naples Police added two additional K9 handlers over time and the names of K9 Officers such as Crunch, Arktos, and Cherry began to be known throughout the adoring community. A new K9 named Felon is being certified as a bomb dog. In total there have been 13 K9’s and handlers trained and certified for local agencies since Lt. Cox became certified as a K9 Handler Trainer. The community is a safer place thanks to the devotion of the Naples City Police K9 program. Congratulations on being awarded Government Business of the Year.
