Modern Day Abolitionists Exist in the Basin and Invite Others to Join Cause

The fight to end human trafficking burns in the hearts of many Basin residents. Among them is founder of the Vernal O.U.R. 5K Jill Boyd who is urging locals to join the cause of modern day abolitionists and help the cause of Operation Underground Railroad. Last year, the goal for the first 5K was to raise $1,500 dollars and they were able to exceed that to reach $4,200 dollars. This year the goal is to raise $2,000 dollars which is the average cost to save one child from the sex trade industry. That is just a start however as race director Allison Heaton from Roosevelt is hoping to organize enough races to fund an underground operation which amounts to $30,000 dollars, shares Boyd. The first opportunity to help is by participating in the 2nd annual Vernal O.U.R. 5K being held Friday, July 14th at the UBATC Vernal Campus. The 5K starts at 9:00pm.
