Elk Hunting Permits Now For Sale

If you’re dreaming of getting a bull elk hunting permit for this fall then your dream can come true. All you need to do is get online and buy it. 30,000 rifle and muzzleloader permits went on sale on July 11th and while they are a hot item, DWR officials say it usually takes a few weeks to sell out. “Don’t wait too long though,” says DWR licensing coordinator Lindy Varney. “If you want to hunt elk in Utah, I’d encourage you to buy a permit as soon as you can.”  Even if those do sell out there is an unlimited amount of permits for the general archery elk hunt which also went on sale on July 11th. The DWR also encourages hunters to learn the differences between the two types of permits and the units they can be used on, the Any-Bull Permit or the Spike-Only Permit. “One of the neat things about hunting on a spike-only unit is the chance to hear and see big, mature bulls,” shares Varney. “The spike-only hunts are held on the areas where the limited-entry hunts are held. You can’t take a branch-antlered bull with a spike-only permit but you can still experience the thrill of being near these big elk.” To learn more and to buy your elk hunting permit, visit
