A safe following distance is more than just good advice and could have prevented an accident on Highway 40 near Duchesne on Friday. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, two Colorado men were traveling eastbound on motorcycles at 4:15pm near milepost 93. Witnesses reported that one man was traveling too close behind his companion and impacted the back tire of the lead motorcycle. 48-year-old Robert Davis hit the back tire of 50-year-old Mark Rice. “The collision was significant enough,” shares UHP, “that Rice lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown onto the roadway, where he suffered a traumatic injury to his head. Davis was also thrown from his motorcycle as well and landed on the shoulder in the gravel, where he suffered severe road rash on his upper extremities and head.” Both men were transported to the Uintah Basin Medical Center. Rice was flown from there to IMC hospital on the Wasatch Front.
