The state tour for Governor Gary Herbert’s 25K Jobs Initiative wrapped up in Uintah and Daggett County on Wednesday. Local business leaders, community members, government officials and resource partners gathered at the Uintah Conference Center to explore methods of bringing jobs to the rural communities of eastern Utah. Lt. Governor Spencer Cox addressed the group prior to a roundtable discussion. Cox explained that this initiative is not a top down approach but rather a focus on offering state resources to rural areas based on the economic development goals of each individual county as established by local leaders. “Our job is to come in here with the resources we have, talk to representatives and say what are you trying to accomplish and how can we help,” shared Cox. He gave the example of over-regulation and the state removing barriers wherever possible. He also emphasized the partners in attendance at the event including World Trade Center Utah and Economic Development Corporation of Utah that can work with businesses and offer programs for economic diversification.
