Investigation Underway After Body Discovered in River Outside Rangely

An investigation is underway after a body was discovered on Wednesday about 4 miles west of Rangely, Colorado. According to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Mazzola was on patrol and visited the Texas Beach area along the White River as part of the continued effort to search for Peter Ruffner who has been missing since early September. “Sheriff Mazzola met Rangely resident Luke Scott, who was hunting for ducks along the river [and] Luke Scott reported to Sheriff Mazzola that he had just found a body in the river,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. Assistance from the Rangely Fire Department and the Rio Blanco County Coroner was requested in retrieving the body from the river. Coroner Roy Kinney transported the body to the morgue. The identity of the body has not been released and is pending the forensic work of the autopsy. More information will be provided once it has been made available.
