The family and friends of a man missing since September are waiting to hear if a body discovered in the White River on November 30th is their missing loved one. According to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, 66-year-old Peter Christian Ruffner had not been seen since Friday, September 29th, and help from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations was requested. While the agencies followed many leads, Ruffner remained missing. Last week, however, the Rio Blanco County Sheriff was patrolling and visited the Texas Beach area along the White River specifically as part of the continued effort to search for Peter Ruffner and a resident told him he had found a body in the river. Assistance from the Rangely Fire Department and the Rio Blanco County Coroner was requested in retrieving the body from the river. While the identity of the body has not been released pending the autopsy, family and friends have shared that it is believed to be Peter Ruffner. Our hearts go out to the Ruffner family at this difficult time.
