UBOC kicked off their 5th season last weekend with a stellar night of Christmas music and entertainment. As Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. James Bankhead was deeply involved in the concert’s planning and execution, as was his wife Lyn Bankhead who serves as the Master Conductor for the chorus. The pair did enjoy one surprise during the evening concert when Uintah County Commissioner Bill Stringer presented the couple with a plaque recognizing them for their contribution to local arts and thanking them for their over 5 years of service. The Bankheads were instrumental to the creation of the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus in 2013 and have traveled many hours and countless miles from their home in Logan to lead rehearsals and pull off amazing concerts in the Basin. The Bankheads expressed appreciation for the award but emphasized their gratitude for the many people involved. “This award gives validity to what we are all doing here; and that is making great art in this wonderful community,” shared Lyn. “The reason we do this is because of the wonderful people and the love that is shared every time we come. It is a love for music and a love for each other that results in the making of great art.” The organization’s spring concert has been announced for March 24th with guest conductor Dr. James Franklin.
