Vernal City Finance Director Mike Davis made a presentation this month to the Vernal City Council on the current budget status and outlook. According to Davis, the general fund for Vernal City is approximately $9 million dollars and the utility fund is approximately $5 million dollars. The City’s top revenue comes from sales tax followed by the highway fuel tax. Property taxes are a small portion of the budget at approximately $370,000 dollars a year. Davis noted that sales tax revenues have increased in the last few months and he would like to say it is trending upward. In 2014, sales tax amounted to around $4 million dollars and the amount has dropped by $800,000 dollars since that time. He noted that the highway tax was down by about $400,000 dollars since 2014.
