Have a heart and give your Christmas tree a second chance. The Conservation Issues Committee of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce is urging residents to recycle their Christmas tree, offering several ideas of what to do. Some people choose to keep their tree and turn it into a winter bird feeder. Leave the tree in its stand and set it up outside. Redecorate it with seed balls, strings of popcorn, berries, peanuts or anything local birds can safely enjoy. In the spring cut up the tree for firewood or chip it for your own mulch. If turning your tree into a winter bird feeder isn’t your style then you can recycle your tree now through mid-January by removing all decorations and then dropping it off in the parking lot at the corner of 100 North and 100 West in Vernal. Collected trees are chipped into mulch for landscaping use in the City. A few are sometimes also used whole for erosion control or wildlife habitat improvement.
