Before it was a Hollywood hit on the big screen,

Steel Magnolias

was written for the stage as a brother’s attempt to emotionally process the loss of his sister, Susan Robinson, who died at age 33 in 1985 after a lifetime of battling diabetes. This play’s writer, Robert Harling, never imagined how the story would stay in the heart of audiences and would continue to be told. This same play, rooted in a family’s love and southern humor, will open tomorrow, January 19th, at Vernal Theatre: LIVE and the women in the iconic roles are thrilled to be part of this retelling. Kayla White of Vernal is making her debut on the Vernal Theatre: LIVE stage in the role of Shelby, the vibrant and determined woman who chooses marriage and having a baby despite the risk to herself as a diabetic. White describes the characters in this show as confident, strong and unafraid to be who they are. She also makes the parallel to each of the women playing in the roles, saying they are every bit as incredible as their characters. “I think everyone should see

Steel Magnolias

,” shares White. “It’s funny, witty and will make you cry! You will leave the theater with a new appreciation for your health and your family. It will inspire you to hold your loved ones a little tighter and you will not be disappointed.” The show opens Friday night and runs on select nights through Saturday, January 27th. Visit
