2018 is looking good for the state of Utah with employment levels continuing their healthy path. According to the Department of Workforce Services, employment for January grew by an estimated 2.9 percent from one year ago, adding 41,300 jobs to the economy. This brings the state’s employment level to 1,473,300. January’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped by a tenth of a percent to 3.1 percent for the state, meaning about 49,200 Utahns were unemployed and actively seeking work. National unemployment stayed the same at 4.1 percent. “The first look at 2018 shows the state continuing on a healthy path of labor market expansion,” shares DWS Chief Economist Carrie Mayne. “Job growth remains near the long-run average and unemployment figures indicate the state continues to operate at full employment.” Unemployment rates by county will be released early this week.
